Presented to Lieutenant Charles Wilkes at the mouth of the Columbia River, by Captain Barton of the Hudson’s Bay Company ship Columbia during Wilkes’ United States Exploring Expedition of 1841.
National Institute for the Promotion of Science, displayed at the United States Patent Office, Washington, DC
Transferred to the Smithsonian Institution in 1859, and catalogued in 1867 as No. 2593
Exchanged to the Musee de l’Homme, Paris, in the 19th century
