Alexis Jacques Jules Marie Van Opstal was a Belgian aristocrat who created the Agence Maritime Internationale. In 1932 Von Opstal created an “African Room” in his Brussels home, “La Maison Blanche,” designed and decorated by the architect Jean Michel Frank. It is believed that this dance costume was mounted on the wood mannequin at that time, which has survived to the present day.
