Coastal Influences

We are pleased to announce our upcoming exhibition “Coastal Influences” in conjunction with Equinox Gallery in Vancouver in June. The show will feature an important group of historical and contemporary Northwest Coast art and a select offering of 20th century work that was influenced by the rich visual legacy of historical First Nations artistic traditions. Some of the artists included in the exhibition will be Emily Carr, Jack Shadbolt, Andy Warhol, Joseph Cornell, Bill Reid and Dempsey Bob. A preview of the exhibition will be available online in early June.

Donald Ellis Gallery was recently instrumental in the repatriation of a major group of historical Northwest Coast art sold at auction in New York City. Purchases on behalf of several Canadian museums and private collectors accounted for approximately 5.9 million dollars of the 7 million dollar sale. The gallery is pleased to announce the forthcoming hardcover publication of this remarkable collection and the story of its journey. The book will feature 60 full colour photographs, over 144 pages and include essays by Steven Brown, Bill Holm, Alan Hoover, Sarah Milroy and William White.
